Delta Driveway & Pavers: The Sacramento Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Delta-compatible driveway and paver components throughout Sacramento, with most driveway repairs running $5,000 – $14,000 and full paver driveway installations landing between $7,000 and $18,000 depending on square footage, base preparation, and paver style. You’ll know you’ve got a problem the moment your car tire sinks into a low spot, water pools against the garage slab after a Sacramento winter rain, or pavers start shifting underfoot near the sidewalk. Most homeowners discover the failure by feel before they ever see it.
If you’re standing in your driveway right now looking at a cracked border course or a sunken apron, here’s the short version: the pavers themselves may be fine, but the base beneath them gave up. That’s the part nobody sees until it fails. We’re Penhallow Remodeling Sacramento, an independent contractor serving Sacramento homeowners, and we’re not affiliated with Delta the brand, but we work with Delta-style paver systems and driveway components every week. Trevor Nash has spent two decades in the trades, and he’ll tell you the same thing he tells every homeowner: the paver on top is only as good as what’s underneath it.
Which Delta Models This Applies To

Delta driveway systems in the Sacramento market typically fall into two categories: interlocking concrete pavers (sold in 60mm and 80mm thicknesses for residential driveways) and segmental retaining wall blocks used as driveway borders or raised planter edges. The compatibility gotcha we see constantly: 60mm pavers are rated for pedestrian patios, not vehicle traffic. If a contractor installed 60mm pavers on your driveway to save money, that’s why you’re seeing cracking now. Driveway pavers need to be 80mm, period.
To identify what you have, pull one border paver and look at the underside. Most Delta-style pavers carry a mold number stamped into the back face, or a raised grid pattern that tells you the mold family. Bring that paver to our Sacramento shop or text us a photo and we’ll match the color blend and size. For OEM versus aftermarket: Delta-branded pavers from the original manufacturer carry a color guarantee that some aftermarket equivalents don’t, but high-quality aftermarket pavers from Belgard, Unilock, or Calstone often match or exceed the original density specs. We stock both. Sacramento sun is brutal on color fade, so if your existing pavers are more than eight years old, expect some visible blend difference with new pavers, even from the same mold. We can pull from a corner of the same driveway and shuffle the blend so the repair disappears.

Signs Your Delta Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Sunken wheel paths. The two strips where your tires roll have dropped an inch or more. This means the aggregate base (the compacted crushed rock layer under the pavers) eroded or was never thick enough. Sacramento’s clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with moisture, which slowly eats away at that base.
- Paver rocking underfoot. A paver that tips when you step on it means the bedding sand beneath it has washed out. Sacramento’s winter rains push water through the joints and carry sand away. Left alone, that paver will crack next.
- Widening gaps between pavers. Joint sand is the small stuff that locks pavers together. When it’s gone, pavers drift. If your driveway looks like it’s slowly spreading apart, the interlock is failing.
- Border course pulling away from the driveway edge. The border pavers (also called soldier course) hold the whole field in compression. When the edge restraint underneath them fails, the border rolls out and the rest of the driveway follows. This is the most commonly missed sign, and it’s the one that turns a $600 repair into a $14,000 replacement.
- Standing water after light rain. A properly graded paver driveway should shed water within a few minutes. If you’re seeing puddles three days after a storm, the slope has flattened or a base pocket has settled. Sacramento clay holds that water against your pavers and accelerates freeze-thaw damage in the rare cold snap.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Sacramento driveways, here’s what you can expect to pay, installed:
- Paver driveway repair (spot fix, border reset): $800 – $3,500
- Partial paver replacement (wheel path or half driveway): $4,000 – $9,000
- Full paver driveway replacement: $7,000 – $18,000
- Concrete driveway replacement (non-paver): $4,500 – $12,000
- Driveway sealing (asphalt or paver joint stabilization): $250 – $700
What drives the range: square footage, access for equipment, how much base material we have to remove and rebuild, and whether your existing pavers can be salvaged or need replacement. Sacramento homes in East Sacramento and Land Park often have narrow side yard access, which means more labor carrying material by hand. Every quote we write includes parts, labor, base repair, haul-away, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing before any work starts. If the repair fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the guarantee, and it’s on every job we do.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Pull a loose paver and look at the base below it. If the sand layer is thin or the crushed rock looks muddy and soft, that’s useful information for us. Reset a single rocking paver with a bag of paver sand if you want to buy yourself time. But here’s where DIY goes wrong: once you start pulling multiple pavers, you’ve broken the interlock and the whole section becomes unstable. Re-establishing proper compaction on Sacramento clay means removing the old base, compacting in lifts, and re-grading for drainage. That’s a job for a plate compactor and someone who knows how to read the existing slope. If you’ve got a border course rolling out, do not stand on it. The interlock can shift suddenly. Call (279) 300-1177 and we’ll have Trevor out to look at it, give you a written number, and tell you honestly whether you need a repair or a replacement. No charge for the estimate.
FAQs

A properly installed paver driveway in Sacramento lasts 20 to 25 years before needing a base rebuild, though the pavers themselves can last 40-plus years if re-set at that midpoint. Our Sacramento sun and clay soil shorten that lifespan compared to coastal California, mostly because the paver color fades and the aggregate base settles more aggressively.
Most failing paver driveways can be repaired with a spot reset or partial replacement, as long as the aggregate base is still compacted and draining. If the base has eroded under the whole driveway or the border course has failed, replacement is usually the more honest long-term fix. Call (279) 300-1177 and we’ll give you a straight answer and a written number.
A typical spot repair takes one to two days, and a full driveway replacement runs three to five days in Sacramento, depending on access and weather. We give you a real arrival window in writing before we start.
We stock common Delta-style paver sizes and border blocks in our Sacramento shop, and we can order uncommon color blends in 48 hours from our local supplier. We also source Belgard and Unilock pavers, which we use alongside cambria and silestone surface products on jobs where the same homeowner is remodeling indoors and out.
