Bufftech Driveway & Pavers: The Sacramento Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Bufftech-compatible driveway and paver replacement parts throughout Sacramento, with most single-part swaps running $150 – $600 installed and full paver driveway replacements typically landing between $7,000 and $18,000 depending on square footage and site prep. If a section of your Bufftech paver driveway has shifted, cracked along the edge, or developed a low spot that pools water after rain, we can usually match the replacement pavers from the truck and have it corrected in a single visit. Most Sacramento homeowners discover a failed paver section after the first heavy rain of fall, when a trip hazard appears where the ground settled underneath, or when a vehicle tire starts to chew up an edge that was never properly restrained.

Call (279) 300-1177

We’re an independent Sacramento contractor, not affiliated with Bufftech, which means we match their paver profiles honestly and tell you plainly when a section can be salvaged versus when it needs to be re-laid on a proper base. The good news: Bufftech paver dimensions are consistent enough across their interlocking concrete lines that a trained eye can identify the exact unit from a photo half the time. Call (279) 300-1177 and we’ll help you figure out what you’re looking at before anyone schedules a trip.

Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech’s interlocking concrete paver lines share a 60mm (roughly 2-3/8 inch) unit thickness across most of their landscape and driveway-rated profiles, which matters because driveway-rated pavers are denser than patio pavers and should never be swapped one for the other, even when the top dimensions match. The most common Bufftech paver patterns we encounter in Sacramento driveways are 4×8 rectangular units and 6×9 or 8×8 modular combinations, and the edge restraint profile (the plastic or concrete border that holds the field pavers in place) is the part that fails first in this market more often than the pavers themselves.

Every Bufftech paver batch has a lot code stamped on the underside or side face, and matching that code gets you the closest color match from a new production run. Without it, we match by measuring the unit, checking the surface texture, and comparing against current Bufftech color charts. For discontinued colorways, which happens on driveways installed before 2010, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a manufacturer like Belgard or Unilock usually blends within two or three years of sun exposure, and we’ll tell you if that tradeoff makes sense before you spend money on a partial pallet from a distributor that may no longer exist. Sacramento’s summer UV is hard on paver pigments, so a 10-year-old Bufftech driveway will already have faded somewhat, making a close-but-not-perfect match far less visible than it would be on a fresh install.

Signs Your Bufftech Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Edge pavers are spreading outward toward the lawn or walkway. The edge restraint (the plastic or concrete strip that holds the outside row) has cracked or pulled loose, usually from vehicle tire pressure rolling over the edge. Once restraint fails, the field pavers start to drift, and the repair gets more expensive the longer it goes.
  • A low spot forms that holds water for more than a few hours after rain. The compacted base material underneath has settled or washed out, which is common in Sacramento’s clay-heavy soils when the ground goes through wet-dry cycles. A paver itself rarely fails here; the base under it is the problem.
  • One or two pavers have cracked or spalled (surface flaking). This usually happens where a vehicle turns in place on the same spot daily, concentrating stress on a single unit. We see this a lot on shorter Sacramento driveways where cars make tight three-point turns.
  • Sand is washing out of the joints every time it rains or the driveway gets hosed down. The polymeric joint sand has broken down, which lets water get under the pavers and accelerates base erosion. Left alone, the pavers start to rock underfoot.
  • Pavers rock or click when you walk or drive on them. The bedding layer under those units has lost compaction or washed away. Rocking pavers are a trip hazard and a sign the base needs attention before the problem spreads to neighboring units.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Buffalo driveways in Sacramento, here’s what we quote, in writing, before any work begins:

  • Single paver replacement (matching or closest-match unit): $150 – $300 installed, including pulling the old unit, checking the base, and re-setting with fresh bedding sand
  • Edge restraint repair (replacing a failed plastic or concrete border on a section): $400 – $1,200 depending on linear feet and whether the edge pavers need to be re-laid
  • Spot base repair (sinking or settled area, up to 50 square feet): $600 – $1,800, including excavating the failed base, re-compacting with new road base, and re-laying the existing pavers
  • Full paver driveway replacement: $7,000 – $18,000, driven mainly by square footage, demolition of the old driveway, and whether we need to upgrade the base depth for heavier vehicles

Every quote includes parts, labor, haul-away of debris, and the written 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair fails inside a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. You get the price before we start, and the number on day one is the number on the invoice. No change orders unless we find something structural and you approve the extra work in writing first.

DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a single Bufftech paver is within reach for a patient homeowner: pop the old unit with two flat pry bars, check that the bedding sand is still level, drop the new unit in, and sweep polymeric sand into the joints. The danger zone is anything involving the base or the edge restraint. Digging out a settled area without understanding Sacramento’s expansive clay soils often makes the problem worse, because you’ll recompact the wrong material and the settlement returns in a year. If the pavers are rocking over more than a four-by-four-foot area, or the edge has pulled away all the way down one side, that’s a base-and-restraint job, and a wrong guess costs more than the service call. Call (279) 300-1177 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a wrench-and-sand job or a crew-and-compactor job.
