Cover Kitchen Remodeling: The Sacramento Owner’s Guide
If you own a Cover home in Sacramento and your kitchen has started showing its age, we can help. A full Cover kitchen remodel in Sacramento typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and whether you’re moving plumbing or electrical. We’re an independent remodeling contractor, not affiliated with Cover, but we’ve worked on enough Cover-built kitchens across Sacramento to know exactly what’s behind those walls and under those floors.
Most Cover owners call us when the laminate countertops start peeling at the seams, the original cabinet hinges sag, or the builder-grade backsplash grout has cracked beyond scrubbing. Cover kitchens from the 2010s and early 2020s share a common DNA: particleboard cabinet boxes, laminate tops, and vinyl flooring. None of it is bad, but none of it was built for fifteen years of daily use either.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover builds single-family homes and townhomes throughout the Sacramento region, from Natomas to Elk Grove to Folsom. The kitchens in these homes fall into a few recognizable patterns, and that’s actually useful. If you open a cabinet and find a sticker with a manufacturer code, we can usually tell you within five minutes whether it’s a stock KraftMaid box or a no-name builder line. The KraftMaid cabinets Cover used in many mid-tier models are worth keeping if the boxes are sound. We routinely reface them, swap the doors, and call it done.
The one compatibility gotcha we see constantly: Cover homes often have shallow-depth upper cabinets to fit a specific wall layout. If you’re ordering aftermarket doors or pull-out trays, those 11-inch uppers won’t take standard 12-inch hardware. We measure every opening before anything gets ordered. Countertops are simpler. The original laminate is almost always a stock post-form top, and replacing it with Cambria or Silestone quartz means the cabinet boxes need to be checked for level first. Particleboard sags over time, especially near the sink.

Signs Your Cover Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Laminate countertop seams lifting or curling. Water has gotten into the substrate underneath. Once the particleboard swells, the laminate never re-adheres cleanly, and the fix is replacement, not glue.
- Cabinet doors that won’t stay closed or hang crooked. The hinges are worn or the screws have stripped out of particleboard. Tightening helps for a month, then the sag returns.
- Cracked or missing backsplash grout. This one is almost always movement behind the tile. Sacramento’s temperature swings expand and contract the wall assembly, and builder showers of mastic behind tile eventually let go.
- Sagging cabinet shelves. Particleboard shelves over 30 inches span will bow under dishes and cookware. You can flip them once, but they’ll bow again.
- Water staining under the sink. The builder sink flange or the faucet seal has failed. By the time the stain shows, the cabinet floor is usually soft enough that the whole sink base cabinet needs replacement.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full kitchen remodel in a Cover home in Sacramento runs $14,000 to $45,000. The bottom of that range gets you new countertops, a new backsplash, refaced or repainted existing cabinet boxes with new doors, new hardware, and a new sink and faucet. The top of the range is a full gut: cabinets out, drywall repaired, electrical updated to current code, new flooring, new island, quartz or natural stone tops, and higher-end fixtures from Kohler, Moen, or Delta.
What moves the number most is whether the layout changes. Moving a sink or range means moving plumbing and electrical, and that’s where Sacramento code requirements and permits come in. We pull permits when the scope requires them and close them out with inspections passed. Every job gets a written price before we start, and that written number is the number on the invoice. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work for a full year: if something we installed fails inside that window, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely replace cabinet hardware, swap a faucet cartridge, or regrout a small section of backsplash. Those are weekend jobs with low stakes. We’d steer you away from pulling countertops, moving cabinets, or doing anything that involves shutting off water lines behind walls. Sacramento homes built in the last two decades have PEX plumbing in many cases, and a bad crimp connection behind a cabinet will leak slowly for weeks before you see it.
There’s also an honesty in knowing when a job is just bigger than it looks from the surface. If the countertops have failed and the cabinets underneath are sound, that’s a countertop job. If the boxes are swollen near the sink and the doors are sagging, that’s a cabinet job. Tell me what you want the room to feel like, and I’ll tell you what it actually takes to get there. Call (279) 300-1177 and we’ll come out, measure, and hand you a written price before any work starts.
FAQs

Most Cover kitchens in Sacramento start showing meaningful wear between years 10 and 15. Original laminate countertops and builder-grade cabinet hinges are typically the first things to go. Call (279) 300-1177 if you’re at that point and want an honest assessment of what’s salvageable.
Often yes. If the cabinet boxes are dry and square, refacing or repainting them costs significantly less than a full replacement, usually $4,000 to $13,000 depending on door style and finish. We’ll tell you straight if the boxes aren’t worth saving.
A cabinet reface with new countertops and backsplash typically takes 3 to 5 working days. A full gut remodel usually runs 3 to 6 weeks depending on permit inspections and material lead times. We give you a written schedule before work starts, and we hit our arrival windows.
We carry standard installation materials on the truck, but cabinets, countertops, and tile are ordered per job to match your exact measurements and finish selections. We source from KraftMaid, Wellborn, Cambria, Silestone, and Caesarstone, and we coordinate delivery so materials arrive when the schedule says they should.
