Silestone Home Additions & ADU: The Sacramento Owner’s Guide
If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Sacramento and want Silestone quartz on the countertops, the installed cost typically runs between $45,000 and $130,000 for the full project, with the Silestone countertop portion landing between $2,000 and $6,500 depending on slab size and edge profile. We stock and install Silestone alongside the full build, which means your countertop isn’t a separate headache, it’s one line item on the written price. Most homeowners figure out where this fits best when they’re standing in a half-finished addition, looking at bare cabinet boxes, and realizing the countertop decision drives the sink, the faucet, and the overhang all at once.
Here’s the thing about Silestone in an addition or ADU that nobody tells you until it’s too late. The slab itself rarely fails. What fails is the planning around it. We get calls from Sacramento homeowners in Land Park, East Sacramento, and Tahoe Park who bought a Silestone remnant for what seemed like a steal, then discovered the overhang didn’t work for their undermount sink, or the slab wasn’t thick enough to span the dishwasher opening without a support bracket. Trevor Nash has walked enough of these jobs to know that the countertop is the last material you choose and the first one that locks in every other decision.
Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Silestone runs its quartz through several collections, and the one you pick changes how the slab behaves in a Sacramento addition or ADU. The most common lines we install are the Eternal series (Silestone’s classic quartz with the widest color range), the Sunlit Days series (launched with carbon-neutral manufacturing, softer veining), and the Loft series (industrial concrete looks that hide fingerprints well in a rental ADU). Each series carries the same 25-year Silestone warranty, but thickness and finish vary. Standard slabs come in 2 cm and 3 cm thicknesses. For an ADU countertop with a dishwasher and undermount sink, we recommend 3 cm. The 2 cm slabs need a laminated edge to look right, and that lamination seam is the first place water finds its way in over a decade of Sacramento dry summers and wet winters.
Here’s a compatibility gotcha most people miss: Silestone’s HybriQ+ technology line uses a different resin blend than the older slabs, and if you’re matching a slab from a 2015 kitchen to a new ADU countertop, the colors won’t line up even if the name matches. Silestone reformulated several popular colors when they moved to HybriQ+. If you’re trying to match, bring us the original slab’s lot number or a sample, not just the color name. We’re an independent contractor in Sacramento, not a Silestone dealer, so we’ll tell you straight when a match isn’t possible and what your closest option actually is.

Signs Your Silestone Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
Most of what goes wrong with Silestone in an addition or ADU isn’t the quartz itself, it’s what’s under it or around it. Here’s what we see most often in Sacramento:
- Seam separation at the sink or cooktop cutout. Silestone expands and contracts slightly with temperature swings. In an ADU without central air, Sacramento summers hit 100°F inside, and a poorly supported seam will open up. The cause is almost always a missing support bracket or a cabinet that wasn’t shimmed level before the slab went down.
- Hairline cracks radiating from a corner. Quartz is tough but it doesn’t flex. If the corner of the slab overhangs a peninsula and someone leans on it hard, you’ll get a crack that starts at the inside corner. This is a support problem, not a Silestone defect.
- Discoloration or dulling around the faucet deck. Sacramento tap water runs hard, and mineral buildup etches the polished surface over time. If the fabricator didn’t seal the faucet holes properly, water wicks under the slab edge and leaves a cloudy ring that won’t polish out.
- The slab doesn’t sit flat on the cabinets. You can see daylight under the front edge, or the slab rocks when you press down. That means the cabinets were set out of level and the installer tried to float the slab on shims. Over time those shims compress, and the unsupported span will crack.
- Chipped edges near the sink. Silestone is chip-resistant, not chip-proof. A dropped cast-iron pan on a 2 cm overhang edge will take a chip out. The edge profile matters here: a full bullnose holds up better than a flat eased edge in a rental ADU.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a home addition or ADU project in Sacramento, the full build typically runs $45,000 to $130,000. The Silestone countertop portion of that is $2,000 to $6,500 installed, which includes templating, fabrication, the slab itself, delivery, and installation. What drives the number up: multiple seams (an L-shaped ADU kitchen with a peninsula needs two), a waterfall edge on an island, or a 3 cm slab with a mitered edge. What drives it down: a straight run with no sink cutout, or a smaller color that’s stocked at a local Sacramento fabricator and doesn’t need special ordering.
Here’s what that price includes when Penhallow Remodeling does the job: a written price before we start (not a ballpark, not a range, a number you can hold us to), a defined arrival window, leveling and shimming of the cabinet bases before the slab goes on, the sink and faucet cutouts, and silicone sealing at every seam and appliance edge. It also includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the countertop fails inside the first year because of our installation work, we come back and fix it at no charge. Written on every job. No re-inspection fee, no service call, no arguing about whose fault it is.
DIY or Call Us?
You can do a few things yourself safely before calling us. Check whether the slab sits flat to the cabinet tops. Check whether the seams have opened up more than the width of a dime. Check under the sink for water staining. That’s all worth knowing, because it tells us whether you need a replacement or a repair without guessing. What we don’t recommend is trying to move, shim, or re-level a Silestone slab yourself. A 3 cm slab weighs roughly 19 pounds per square foot, so an average 30-square-foot countertop is pushing 570 pounds. A drop doesn’t just break the slab, it can take out cabinet faces, plumbing, and a foot. Let us handle it. If you’re in Sacramento and the countertop is moving, cracking, or separating, call (279) 300-1177 and we’ll come look at it. The estimate is free.
FAQs

Silestone’s warranty runs 25 years, and with proper support and sealing at the seams, you should get that full life out of a slab in a Sacramento addition. The things that shorten it are unlevel cabinet bases, missing support brackets under overhangs, and hard water that eats at the polish on the sink edge. We inspect all three on every install. Call (279) 300-1177 if you want us to look at an existing countertop before you plan the rest of the addition around it.
Small chips on the edge can often be filled and polished by a good fabricator. Cracks that radiate from a corner, or seams that have separated at a cooktop cutout, usually mean the support under the slab is the real problem, and repairing the surface without fixing the support just sets you up for a repeat failure. We’ll tell you which situation you have and what each fix costs before you spend a dollar. Estimates are free.
From template to installed slab is usually two to three weeks in Sacramento. Templating takes about an hour, fabrication at the slab yard runs a week to ten days depending on edge work, and installation is one day. If we’re doing the cabinets at the same time as part of a larger addition, the countertop goes in once the cabinets are set and leveled, which keeps the whole job on a single schedule.
We source Silestone through local Sacramento fabricators and slab yards, which means we can pull stock colors fast and special-order anything in the current Silestone catalog. We also work with Cambria, Caesarstone, and other quartz brands if you want to compare color and price. One call to (279) 300-1177 gets you a straight answer on what’s available and what it costs installed.
