ViewLux Fence Installation: The Sacramento Owner’s Guide
We install ViewLux vinyl fencing throughout Sacramento for $3,500 to $9,000 on a typical residential run. The price includes tear-out of the old fence line when needed, new posts set in concrete, panels, gates, and hardware. Most owners call us after a windstorm snaps a rail or a sprinkler system has been quietly rotting the post bases for years.
ViewLux is a vinyl fence system built around tongue-and-groove privacy panels with reinforced bottom rails. What most people discover the hard way is that installing it correctly matters more than the material itself. A ViewLux fence installed with improperly spaced posts or low-grade concrete will lean, sag, or blow over long before the vinyl fails. In Sacramento’s clay-heavy soil, post depth and concrete footing width are the difference between a fence that lasts 20 years and one that needs resetting after the first wet winter.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux makes several fence lines, but the ones we see most in Sacramento are the Privacy series (6-foot solid panels), Semi-Privacy (2-inch gaps between pickets), and their Rail fence with 2×4 or 2×6 aluminum-insert top and bottom rails. The part numbers are printed on a sticker inside the top rail of most panels, usually starting with VLX followed by four digits. If that sticker’s gone, measure the panel thickness: Privacy panels are 1.5 inches thick at the tongue; Semi-Privacy runs 1.25 inches.
The compatibility gotcha with ViewLux is that their older Richmond-era panels don’t always interlock cleanly with the current Sacramento-stocked panel profile. The tongue-and-groove geometry changed slightly around 2016. If you’re patching an older section with new panels, you can usually make it work, but the seam will be visible and the locking channel won’t seat as tightly. For a clean match, we order by panel code rather than by color alone. Aftermarket tongue-and-groove panels exist, but most of them are thinner than OEM ViewLux and the UV stabilizer package isn’t the same. In Sacramento sun, that shows up as yellowing within three to four years. We’ll install aftermarket at your direction, but we’ll tell you plainly that OEM ViewLux panels carry a better long-term look.

Signs Your ViewLux Fence Installation Is Failing
- Leaning posts, especially after rain. In Sacramento’s clay-heavy soil, this almost always means the original post was set too shallow or the concrete footing was undersized. Clay expands and contracts with moisture, and a 24-inch-deep post in a 6-inch hole will walk itself out of plumb within a few seasons. The fix is resetting the post at a proper depth with a footer that extends below the frost line and above the water table.
- Panels that rattle or lift at the rails. The aluminum U-channel inside the bottom rail is what locks the panel to the post. When that channel corrodes or the screws back out, the panel rides up and down in the wind. Left unchecked, the panel eventually pops free of the post entirely.
- Soft, crumbling post bases. This is the number one ViewLux failure we see, and it is rarely the vinyl’s fault. Sprinklers aimed at the fence line keep the post base wet year-round, and the trapped moisture rots any wood blocking or rusts the internal steel stiffener. By the time the vinyl cracks at grade, the post is hollow underneath.
- Discolored or chalky panels. ViewLux factory panels carry a UV inhibitor, but panels that have been scrubbed with harsh cleaners or pressure-washed at high PSI lose that surface protection. Chalking means the vinyl’s top layer is oxidizing. The panel will still function, but it won’t look right, and paint won’t bond to it.
- Gates that drag or won’t latch. This is a post problem, not a hinge problem, most of the time. The gate post has shifted, throwing the gate out of alignment. Adding bigger hinges or shaving the gate bottom is a temporary patch; resetting the post is the actual fix.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

An installed ViewLux fence in Sacramento runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a typical residential yard, including removal of the old fence and disposal. On the low end you’re looking at a straight run of 60 to 80 linear feet with one gate, level ground, and no old concrete to cut through. The high end covers 150-plus linear feet, multiple gates, significant grade changes, or old posts set in concrete that has to be broken out before the new line goes in.
Here’s the parts-and-labor breakdown we put in writing before any work starts:
- Material per linear foot (OEM ViewLux panels, rails, posts, caps, hardware): $18 to $32
- Installation labor per linear foot: $12 to $18
- Post removal and disposal (old concrete included): $8 to $15 per post
- Gate including hardware: $300 to $800 each
Every ViewLux fence installation we do in Sacramento comes with our written 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a post settles out of plumb, a panel cracks at the seam, or a gate starts dragging inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s in writing on every job, along with the price. The number we hand you before the first post goes in is the number you pay at the end.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before you call anyone. Look at the post bases for soft or crumbling vinyl. Run your hand along the bottom rail and see if the panel moves. Check whether the gate post is plumb. If you find a loose screw or a popped panel, and the post itself is solid, that’s a reasonable DIY fix with basic tools.
Reset a post yourself only if you have a post-hole digger, a real sense of level, and the patience to wait 24 to 48 hours for the concrete to cure before hanging panel weight on it. That cure time is where most DIY post resets go wrong. A panel hung too soon pulls the post out of plumb before the concrete even sets. It’s not dangerous work the way a garage door spring is, but it’s heavy, repetitive, and unforgiving. If you’ve never set a post in Sacramento clay, your first attempt will probably teach you things you’d rather have paid someone else to know. If you’d rather skip that, call (279) 300-1177 and we’ll have someone out to look at the full line.
FAQs

A properly installed ViewLux fence lasts 20 to 25 years in Sacramento. The variable isn’t the vinyl; it’s the post installation. Posts set in concrete footers below the clay moisture line will hold for decades. Posts set shallow will lean within three to five years. If your fence is failing before 10 years, it’s almost always an installation problem, not a material problem.
Rarely. A cracked or broken ViewLux panel cannot be glued back to structural strength. The tongue-and-groove system distributes wind load across the full panel face, and a glued joint becomes the new failure point. Individual panels are replaceable, which is the affordable fix. You don’t need to replace the whole fence because one panel cracked.
Most residential ViewLux installations in Sacramento run two to three working days from first post hole to final gate adjustment. The concrete cure time between setting posts and hanging panels is built into that schedule. Removal of an old fence adds a half day, sometimes a full day if the old posts are set in oversized concrete footings.
We stock the most common ViewLux panel sizes and colors on the truck for repairs, and we special-order full fence installations by panel code to ensure a clean match. Common Sacramento inventory includes 6-foot white Privacy panels, Semi-Privacy inserts, top and bottom rails, post caps, and gate hardware. If we have it on the truck, we can quote the replacement on the spot.
The other product lines we work with regularly are KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, so if the fence is one part of a larger exterior project, we can quote the full scope in one visit.
Call (279) 300-1177 to schedule a free estimate on any ViewLux fence installation or repair in Sacramento. We’ll walk the line with you, show you exactly what’s failing and why, and give you a written number before anyone picks up a post-hole digger.
